Helping Youth Discover their True Self

August 23, 2023

This past July, nearly 50 teens and adult volunteers comprised the Palm Beach delegation attending the YMCA’s Christian Values Conference (CVC) in Black Mountain, NC. The conference brings teens together with peers from across the United States for a week of fun, friendship, and the chance to explore how faith can help them navigate the many challenges they face as a teen.

CVC got its start in the early 1970s at YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly – an idyllic historic property situated atop a mountain. This year’s conference was attended by 300 delegates representing 11 YMCAs. Like all Y events, CVC is an inclusive gathering that welcomes teens from every background and religion. Favorite activities include themed mixers, manic sing-alongs, a crazy twist on a track and field day called “The Wreckoning,” time in nature, and physical outlets like ropes courses and free-time sporting events. Daily devotionals and small group “family time” is designed to inspire teens to lean on one another and their higher power to climb to the highest heights in their own lives once they come down from their mountaintop.
