The Haggerty Hot Rod: 20,700+ Youth Experiences and Counting

Sometimes a gift goes much farther than anyone could have imagined. In the case of the Haggerty Hot Rod, generously donated to our YMCA by Michelle and Michael Hagerty, it has traveled approximately 3,600 miles this year alone and created more than 20,700 transportation experiences for children and teens at the Peter Blum Family YMCA.

Thanks to this generous bus donation, affectionately known as the Haggerty Hot Rod, young people have safe, reliable access to YMCA programs, experiences, friendships and opportunities throughout the whole year.

Making After-School Possible

Each school day, the Haggerty Hot Rod transports approximately 95 children from local elementary schools to the Peter Blum Family YMCA. Over 179 school program days, that adds up to more than 17,000 youth transportation experiences.

For many working families, this transportation is what makes participation possible, providing a safe transition from school to an afternoon of learning, activity, friendships and positive role models at the YMCA.

Turning Summer Into an Adventure

This past summer, the Haggerty Hot Rod served an average of 80 teen and tween campers each week. The bus traveled roughly 1,600 miles across 47 field trip days to museums, parks, attractions and other destinations throughout South Florida.

But the true impact goes beyond the numbers.

Every mile represents a child arriving safely at the Y, a working parent knowing their child is cared for, a teenager experiencing something new, or a memory that might not otherwise have been possible.

The Haggerty Hot Rod has become much more than a bus. It has become a vehicle for opportunity.
