Back in 2019, my family and I were introduced to a place that would become a cornerstone in our lives—the YMCA, affectionately known as "The Y". My friends often spoke about the Y with enthusiasm, praising its welcoming atmosphere and the convenience of childcare, allowing them to focus on their fitness goals.

Fast forward to today, our family has grown exponentially. In 2021, I began fostering children, opening my home and heart to children in need. Over the last three years, I’ve welcomed more than 15 foster children, each one leaving a lasting impact. With our family now counting eight, the Y has played an even more vital role in our daily routine and in providing a sense of stability and fun for all the kids who come through our doors.

What I love most about the Y is the vibe—there's something special about the environment that just feels right. But beyond the atmosphere, it’s the people and the culture of inclusivity that have truly touched our hearts. No matter how many children come into our home, I’ve never had any issues adding them to our YMCA account. This flexibility has been a blessing, as it allows each child to enjoy and explore the Y during their time with us. For many of these kids, it’s their first time experiencing something so welcoming and community-oriented, and it's a joy to witness their excitement.

Personally, I’m a gym enthusiast, and the stair master is my go-to machine, even though it can be quite the challenge! The kids, on the other hand, are avid swimmers. They can often be found in the pool area, splashing around and zooming down the slide. My eldest daughter was even part of the swim team, dedicating countless hours to practice during swim season. These activities at the Y have not only kept us physically active but have also provided a space for us to bond and create lasting memories.

The YMCA has been more than just a gym or a recreational facility for us—it has been a sanctuary of support. With so many children coming in and out of our home, the staff have been incredibly accommodating, ensuring that each new child feels welcome and is quickly integrated into the programs that suit their needs. The afterschool program has been another pillar of support for our family, giving the kids a safe and engaging space to go after school while I handle other responsibilities.

Whenever a new foster placement comes into our home, the Y team works diligently to get them enrolled in the next available spot. Their commitment to making our experience as smooth and positive as possible has been nothing short of amazing.

The Y has become an essential part of our lives—a place where we come together as a family, enjoy our individual pursuits, and find comfort in the community around us. It’s a place where we’ve formed bonds, not just with each other, but with the staff and other members who share our values.

I am so thankful and eternally grateful to have the Y as a home away from home.
