T.H.R.I.V.E. Summit Empowers Teens to Connect, Be Heard and Build Resilience

On Saturday, August 29, 2026 the inaugural T.H.R.I.V.E. Teen Mental Wellness Summit, held in partnership with the Peter Blum Family YMCA, brought together 87 teenagers for a day of learning, connection and open conversation - and the important reminder that they are not alone.

Created by local high school student Zoraida de Souza, T.H.R.I.V.E. (Teen Health Resilience Insight Vitality Education) grew from her personal experience with grief and her passion for helping teens build resilience before reaching a crisis point. The teen-led summit gave young people a voice while providing practical tools to navigate stress, relationships and everyday challenges.

Teens ages 13–18 participated in interactive workshops focused on emotional intelligence, healthy relationships, leadership, gratitude, college readiness and more. Sessions for parents and caregivers offered additional guidance for supporting teens at home.

Zoraida explained the concept of T.H.R.I.V.E. - to give teens “the opportunity to have a seat at the table” and talk about mental health, the skills they need and the challenges they face. Her hope is that every participant leaves with at least one practical strategy they can turn to when they're stressed or overwhelmed.

The inaugural summit was designed to be more than a one-day event. Its organizers describe T.H.R.I.V.E. as a movement focused on building stronger teens one skill at a time, making the event a starting point for continued teen mental wellness awareness, education and peer connection.
