80 Years Apart. One Special Place at the Y.

Rae

For one local family, the Peter Blum Family YMCA became more than a place to exercise. It became a place of comfort, connection and cherished memories during one of life's most challenging chapters.

When life took an unexpected turn, a local mother of two found herself navigating personal hardships while helping care for her 89-year-old grandmother, Rae, who was living with dementia and recovering from a serious fall.

During Grandma Rae's stay in Boca Raton, the family visited the Y several times a week. Rae participated in exercise classes to rebuild her strength, while her great-grandchildren enjoyed staying active alongside her.

One particular moment captured everything the Y had come to mean to their family.

"Between those two exercise machines is 80 years of life, my 9-year-old daughter on the treadmill and my 89-year-old grandmother on the NuStep machine."

For a mother working hard to keep her family happy and healthy, seeing generations come together brought an overwhelming sense of peace.

"It was the first time in a long time I felt I could breathe a sigh of relief."

This is the impact of the Y. And this is why your support matters. Through our Annual Giving Campaign, you help ensure the Y continues to be a place where individuals of all ages can find connection, encouragement and support when they need it most.
