YMCA Honors 26 Palm Beach High School Seniors with William P. Schipani Scholarships

Eighteen years ago, the Dr. William P. Schipani Scholarship was established at the YMCA of South Palm Beach County in memory of William and Judith Schipani’s eldest son, who developed cancer and passed away in the prime of his life. 

This year, 26 high school seniors and their parents gathered at the Delray Beach Ocean Club to be honored for their achievements in academics, athletics, spirituality and volunteerism and to receive $1,500 each.  The students selected best exemplify the YMCA’s mission to build spirit, mind and body for all as well as the YMCA character development values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

The Schipanis chose the YMCA as the vehicle for these scholarships because of their family’s long history of involvement with the organization.  As members of the YMCA for more than two decades, including in their native Pittsburgh, the Schipanis have involved their children and grandchildren in a variety of YMCA activities.

“We are honored to have dedicated families like the Schipanis involved in the YMCA,” said Jorene Jameson, chief development officer for the YMCA of South Palm Beach County.  “Families like theirs help us build strong kids, strong families and strong communities and recognize outstanding students who represent a bright future for all of us.”
