PASSING THE GAVEL

As of January 2026, our YMCA's governing board, the Board of Trustees, initiated its bi-annual change of leadership with Chief Volunteer Officer, Hank Jackson, passing the gavel to incoming CVO, Rosie Inguanzo-Martin. We sat down with Rosie and asked her a few questions regarding her volunteering experience thus far with the Y and her plans as incoming CVO.

Why did you start volunteering with the YMCA?
My involvement with the YMCA started from a place of gratitude. Seeing the growth, leadership, and sense of belonging it provided my son motivated me to give back and support an organization that truly makes a difference in people’s lives. I wanted to give back and help create those opportunities for other families.

What do you enjoy most as a volunteer?
I enjoy giving back to the community and knowing my contributions are helping families, it’s an incredibly rewarding feeling. Being part of an organization that truly makes a difference brings me a strong sense of purpose. I enjoy meeting our YMCA families and hearing their personal stories. As a board volunteer, I also enjoy connecting with other business leaders who share a commitment to supporting the Y and its mission. Its inspiring to be around so many people who are passionate about strengthening our community.

What are you looking forward to most as CVO?
I am looking forward to continuing to meet more of our YMCA families and finding ways to further support them. My goal is to help grow the YMCA through increased membership and community engagement. I’m especially excited to be part of our Building Possibilities Capital Campaign, as its success will allow us to serve even more families. Being part of something that makes such a meaningful impact truly makes me feel grateful and blessed.

Describe a memorable moment you had at the Y.
One of my most memorable moments at the Y was walking into our annual YMCA Inspiration Breakfast for the first time. It truly took my breath away. I was not expecting 500 people gathered to support the YMCA and be inspired by the keynote speaker. Now, with 650–700 attendees, I still leave in awe every year. It’s an incredible experience that inspires all of us to better our own lives and the lives of others. If you have not attended our YMCA Inspiration Breakfast, I encourage you to attend and invite friends and co-workers for a morning of reflection and inspiration.

Any last thoughts on volunteering for the Y?
If you love helping others or want to feel you are part of something meaningful reach out to the YMCA for volunteer opportunities, donation opportunities, and sponsorship opportunities. There is nothing more rewarding than giving back. Even small efforts create a lasting impact for you and the community. It reminds me that when we come together to support one another, we can truly change lives.
