Five South Palm Beach County museums are ready to expand your child’s horizons!
Great interests often grow out of detours from daily routines. With the school year winding down and the heat of the summer just around the corner, now’s the perfect time to check out some of the great kid-oriented offerings at our area’s museums. After all, the YMCA of South Palm Beach County is all about promoting the healthy development of kids’ body, mind, and spirit!
1. The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens in Delray Beach hosts monthly family fun day on select Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the chance for kids of all ages to make themed craft to take home.
2. Boynton Beach’s city center is crowned with the Schoolhouse Children’s Museum, situated in its historic and beautifully retrofitted 1920s era elementary school. The museum’s permanent exhibits showcase the town’s pioneering and natural histories, weekly classes, and special events to engage pre- and elementary-aged children.
3. Have a kiddo who wants to know how things work? The Children’s Science Explorium at Boca Raton’s Sugar Sand Park is the answer you’ve been looking for. Geared for children ages 5 to 12, the museum’s exhibits, programs, and camps bring physical science to life.
4. Burgeoning Picassos should head to the Art School at the Boca Raton Museum of Art for low-cost, one-Saturday-a-month art classes for children ages 5 to 12. Dedicated artists ages 9 to 12 might want to enroll in ceramics and pottery classes. Those aged 13 to 18 can take enroll in a painting and drawing class. Pre-registration required.
5. Get an up-close view of Florida’s coastal ecosystem at the Sandoway Discovery Center overlooking the ocean in Delray Beach. Designed to inspire young learners, the center features educational programs, native and invasive reptile species, a touch tank, and more. Don’t miss the nurse shark feeding time!
