Parent and Child Swim (ages 6 – 36 months old)
This program is a water orientation class designed for parent and child participation. Parents accompany their children in the water. The class encourages the bond of trust between parent and child and teaches parents how to guide and supervise their children around the water. Classes focus on safe water exploration, proper holding and towing techniques, safe water entry and exit, with instructor- led songs and games. All children are required to wear swim pants in the water.
Countess deHoernle Youth Learning Center
- Preschool (12 months – 5 years old)
- Preschool education based on the child centered Reggio Emilia curriculum.
- The Countess deHoernle Youth Learning Center opens 7:30 a.m. and closes at 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The Countess deHoernle Youth Learning Center is dedicated to providing young children with preschool education. Our program encourages exploration, creativity and self-expression through developmentally appropriate activities. Child guided learning experiences support healthy spiritual, intellectual and physical development. YMCA staff portray positive role models while providing care, which is supportive, nurturing, warm and responsive to each child's needs.
The Schmidt Family YMCA Child Development Center at Mae Volen is dedicated to providing young children with preschool education. Our program encourages exploration, creativity and self expression through developmentally appropriate activities. Child guided learning experiences support healthy social, emotional, intellectual, and physical development. YMCA staff portray positive role models while providing care, which is supportive, nurturing, warm and responsive to each child’s needs.
The nurturing environment at The Schmidt Family YMCA provides on-going opportunities for children and senior adults to interact. The benefit is to both generations are wide ranging. Children learn that seniors have rich histories and are in many ways not so different than them; seniors receive love and attention from children, helping them focus on the many joys of life.
